It's a movie set. Why save it? How about focus on the real problem of the movement of the desert that is causing displacement of real people due to famine.

China has a well developed method of stopping dune encroachment by covering the dune with mats and planting in the mats. I have seen many hectares reclaimed using the method.

Perhaps "the force" is intervening to preserve the home of its Jedi master. I visited the site in Tunisia last November in 2013 and it seemed to be fine. I saw no obvious evidence of threatening dunes. I'm happy to share my pictures if anyone is interested. Even after all these years it still has the other worldly quality to bring goosebumps to this fan.
