As a sealer in the temple, I have always recognized that I am pronouncing and sealing upon the couple the blessings of the Abrahamic Covenant, the ultimate promise being exaltation itself. In fact, Elder Bateman taught that in the sealing ordinance, our exaltation is sealed upon us five times. More recently, I have come to appreciate and believe that the Patriarchal Blessings I am privileged to pronounce on members of my stake are also a declaration of the same promises and obligations of that great covenant. Every one of the saving priesthood ordinances we receive seem to be a restatement of God’s promise to bring us back into His presence and our part in seeing that promise is fulfilled for us and all our brothers and sisters.
