Thank you for this article. I had to do some serious self-examination about what I post and why.

Excellent and insightful article! It is spot on. I'm saving and sharing this with my kids and grand kids...no matter our age or circumstances, we fall into this trap so easily and willingly! Especially find the reference to devices so interesting and timely!

For a little praise to the author, genuine flattery if you will: This was an eye-opening, well written, informative, scripture based and soul search promoting article. I love the Old Testament insight in Daniel. You touched on so many aspects of flattery and gave us a challenge to introspect and to share in conversation with others. Thank you.

Great read! I think a further way of looking at the portion of scripture that you interpreted as possibly being fulfilled through profit-sharing would be to consider that it might include the notions of wealth redistribution or universal basic income—notions which don’t include only the rich and which are touted more and more frequently in politics today as something everyone “deserves.” Thanks for writing this!

This is an eye opener article. I share riddles with my grandchildren so this is going to be a good one!!..I can see how we as a society have been lured into the flattery of social media. Thank you for bringing to light these truths so we are not deceived and can use social media for sharing the gospel and being careful in its use for personal aggrandizement.

This message is clear, except, sincere complements and praise are expressions of love and appreciation and are essential for proper human interaction. We are commanded to praise God. We also sing, “Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah,” etc. The key to the difference is in the given definition, “flattery means offering praise strategically, for gain.” If we are praising others with the intent to manipulate them for our benefit, then it becomes flattery.
