Richard Whaley, I served as a Latter-day Saint Navy Chaplain from 2014-2020. Served in Japan, on a cruiser, and with Marines in North Carolina. It was a wonderful ministry!

Dear Becca, thank you for sharing you story. How lovely. The Mission President who presided over Scottsdale, Arizona, when I was baptized, Tracy Watson, gave Elder Christofferson my story. Elder Christofferson was searching for stories about the Book of Mormon and conversion.

How did Elder Christofferson know of your story? I am glad that you had an amazing experience that led to your eventual baptism. I am also a convert, and fortunately, my mother gave permission. I still recall her exact words and feel extremely grateful that the Spirit of Christ acted strongly upon her that day. The gospel has blessed my life for over 5 decades.

Thank you. My father's mother's family were German Jews. They 'gave up' the jewishness when they came to America, but did not replace it with the truth of the restored gospel. I regret that and love my Jewish heritage. And I've taught my '1/8th jewish' children to respect their heritage.

Having been a seminary teacher through two years of teaching the Old Testament, I grew to love the foundation of our beliefs as LDS, which is the Jewish faith. I loved reading your conversion story. It would be so wonderful if more youth of the world today were involved with religion as much as you were.

When did you serve as an LDS Chaplain and where were serving?
Pattie SkousenJune 1, 2020
What a beautiful conversion. Your story moved me to think and ponder on my own conversion story. We all are in need of being converted in our our own way as we walk the path back to our loving Heavenly Father and Savior. Your story pricked my heart. Where was my heart and mind at your tender age? If I hadn’t been raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, would I have been so adventurous to seek it out? I have questioned this part of me over and over again. I would like to believe I would be like you, enlightened by the Spirit. Interestingly though, I have been enlightened by the Spirit, “line upon line, precept upon precept.” Thanks so much.
