Thank you so much for this far-reaching history and the significance of God's role in our heritage of a country ordained and blessed by God, Our Father. I was moved to tears while reading it and am so grateful I did. I am sharing the article on my FB page in hopes that many others will read it and feel compelled to show their patriotism and pray for our country each and every day, and for our President to make righteous decisions on its behalf.

You are not true American if you can read this piece and not come away stirred in the breast at the solemnity of action so proffered by these patriots of old. To link their sacrifice with Pres. Ballard's discourse was timely and ingenious. We all need to consider where our course next lies...

Linda SheffieldApril 19, 2020

Thank you for this important article. I truly feel that our American history has been lost and swallowed up in the movement to be one world. Some of our ancestors lived through those times and their spirit has resonated with me. I intend to share this inspirational and informative article with our children.

A good day to re-watch the movie "April Morning", with Tommy Lee Jones. It may be on Youtube. Excellent film.

Thank you for a much needed reminder. Incredibly well written. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Oh. My. Goodness. This is the most heart string pulling piece I’ve read in a while. It is powerful; thank you.

JaLeenApril 18, 2020

Thank-you. Remembering this brings the Spirit into my heart and gratitude for our God, this country, and all those who sacrificed so much.

Thank you for your beautiful article. It brought tears to me as I imagined my 6th ggf, who was at Lexington. It brought his experience to life.

Very well written! Please furnish footnotes or references so we can identify the source of the quote and learn more.

Thank you. I will be praying for our nation with added fervor this Sunday, April 19.

Concord Hymn BY RALPH WALDO EMERSON (Sung at the Completion of the Battle Monument, July 4, 1837) By the rude bridge that arched the flood, Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled, Here once the embattled farmers stood And fired the shot heard round the world. The foe long since in silence slept; Alike the conqueror silent sleeps; And Time the ruined bridge has swept Down the dark stream which seaward creeps. On this green bank, by this soft stream, We set today a votive stone; That memory may their deed redeem, When, like our sires, our sons are gone. Spirit, that made those heroes dare To die, and leave their children free, Bid Time and Nature gently spare The shaft we raise to them and thee.

Please give us more descriptions and stories of The MinuteMen. It's the birthday of a loved one today, so please consider it a sacred birthday request. The images of the MinuteMen go STRAIGHT to the HEART... ...with their fierce courage and determination to sacrifice ALL if necessary. They defended the safety, Freedom, dignity, potential for growth, prosperity and religious liberty of all their loved ones and community members, and they were closely bonded with and connected to their families and friends. They epitomize unselfish, heroic, love-motivated Manhood. They followed Christ. Please, we want to learn more about them!

As a person who was born on July 4th. I have often thanked my Heavenly Father for the establishment of this Nation. And as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I thank Him for the Book of Mormon, that testifies of the resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ, and that this Nation is the "Promised Land" that Lehi and his family were given as a "covenant land". Thank you so much, Maurine, for writing such an inspiring account! We will continue to pray for this wonderful Nation!

Another reminder that it is in the details--the human aspects of the story--that the full impact can be felt regarding historical events. It is these personal accounts of what an "average" citizen thought, felt, and did that allows us to place ourselves in their shoes and ask ourselves what we would have done in that circumstance. Many thanks.

DebbiApril 17, 2020

Beautifully and powerfully written. It is poignant to think of these forefathers and how it must have been then for them.

Walter CarsonApril 17, 2020

So well-conceived and so well-written. What a reminder of 1) how important America is to God and 2) His significant aid in the establisment and 3) the fultillment of prophecy!

CarolApril 17, 2020

This is beautiful. Let us pray! as counseled by President Ballard. Thank you for such an outstanding article.

Justin MApril 17, 2020

WOW. Wow. Wow... Thank you for sharing this story, and for the sacred way in which it is conveyed! I hope this story is rerun as July 4 approaches. It's certainly worth remembering the early sacrifices of our early patriots. Thank you!

I appreciate this stirring reminder of our spiritual as well as revolutionary and cultural history. My family lived in New Hanover Pennsylvania at this time and father together with sons fought for this precious freedom we need to continue to defend even now. Their German Lutheran and Anabaptist beliefs ran deep and strong until my own father found the restored gospel while serving in the Korean War. Our early Fathers and Mothers had great faith that freedom was an essential part of God’s plan for us. I’m so grateful for their sacrifices. We can continue the legacy!!!

Vivian AdamsApril 17, 2020

thank you, Maurine, for writing this important article, It is vital that we teach these things to our children who so need to understand the heritage of freedom the Lord has given us. This is the Lord's history as is recorded in 1 Ne. 13=14. We need to remember the sacrifice and teach it.

Mike M.April 17, 2020

Thank you so much for this excellent article!

Sally SmithApril 17, 2020

Unite and stand for truth and justice, no matter the cost. For we live on sacred ground. A land of promised freedom.

CarolineApril 17, 2020

My husband and I were in Lexington last year on President's Day and were humbled by the parade, the mass of people dressed in Revolutionary garb, and honoring their legacy. Through the decades and now centuries, the people of the area truly have stayed committed to their stewardship over this sacred ground made holy by the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for the liberty we enjoy today.

Matai2cApril 17, 2020

WOW! WOW! WOW! A well written piece of our role in God's plan. It's quite refreshing to know how the American ancestors and forefathers exercised extensive faith in truly is quite reminiscent of Nephi's days of battle. Every anti God group that's trying to dismantle our right to religious freedom ought to read this article.

KathleenApril 17, 2020

Incredibly written - so heartfelt
