Thoughts on this possibly being a fulfillment of Joel's prophecy in Joel 2? Here's the chapter heading and verses 1 and 15. note vs 15 speaks of blowing a trumpet, calling a fast, and calling a solemn assembly. CHAPTER 2 War and desolation will precede the Second ComingâThe sun and the moon will be darkenedâThe Lord will pour out His Spirit upon all fleshâThere will be dreams and visions. 1 Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand; 15 ¶ Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:

I've pondered these events, and wondered if they are somehow connected to the "fulfillment of the Times of the Gentiles." As you suggest, the "surgical" removal of Moroni's horn seems unlikely to be accidental or random. And it coincides with the calling home of missionaries from many of the Gentile nations. And it also coincides with so many incredible changes in the functioning of the church, and Pres. Nelson's continual drumbeat about us preparing for the Lord's Second Coming. It is hard for me to see these as unrelated. Is a "sign of the times" such ONLY if the brethren label it as such? Or are we as members of His church expected to discern those signs of the times for ourselves?

I've always felt that the trumpet represented our declaring the gospel to the world. So tender it would come at a time when our missionaries are being returned to homes and restricted to phone and internet sharing of the gospel. But just as the trumpet will be returned into place, this too shall pass and again we will be able to share our testimonies in full force.

Excellent analysis. I have even wondered if the trumpet falling from Moroni's grasp might be a literal fulfilment of Section 112:25, where the Lord -speaking of the last day destructions - says "And upon my house shall it begin.." Given that a Temple is a House of the Lord and this happened at the headquarters of the Church, could this be a literal fulfilment of the prophecy and the beginning of much more to come?

What's interesting to me is that the warnings about the storage of food and other necessities, which we had received many years ago, were largely, not universally, neglected ... up until very recently. Now, many people wish they had heeded the prophets earlier. I'm not excepting myself. I, too, could have been better prepared.

Incredibly insightful and timely article. This is the type of guidance we need to review every situation in which we might have an inclination on our own to declare âthis must be the end of the world!â Who would have thought in 1833 that almost 200 years (so far) were yet to take place when wars, miracles, revelations, and temples everywhere would fill the history books of fulfilling prophesy. I still remember the talk by President Hinckley when he talked about being prepared for the last days.....and then went on to know there was still time left and the end was NOT immediately imminent. Thanks for our prophets.
