This is a long process. I have been trying to work with my daughter for years, she is in her 40's now--same scenario. Sometimes I feel we have gone backwards in our relationship; but I still try to maintain a "love" relationship. I do not condone the many things she does; but I do tell her when she is doing very well. My daughter has issues that are way beyond my scope and I am unable to help her. I continue to place her name on the prayer roll of the temple and am always excited when she reaches out to me for any advice. It is a long road to go down with a child with mental and stressed emotional problems. I have watched my sister-in-law with her son and his alcohol/drug abuse. It is not pleasant to see our children suffer so; but the words of advice you have given are what I have been trying to do. May the Lord bless you in your challenge.
