My point in my previous comment was that when people are allowed to self-identify as members of a group designated as underprivileged, the whole thing falls apart. Just to be clear, I would be classified as a straight white dude.

I agree with J.K. and Maya - but am saddened that the publication dismissively utilizes 'liberal' to describe Ms. Rowling. To be 'liberal' is God-like (see Alma 1:30; James 1:5). And Mr. Hoggan notes Elizabeth Warren as self-identifying as 'non-white'. What is "White"? DNA confirms the futility of our self-asserted purity. We all seem to be rather an amalgam of racial identities.

Great article. Appreciate the scientific references. I echo the words of Michael Hoggan, in his comments, below: "we [certainly] HAVE reached a very interesting conundrum" (my emphasis).

I agree with Helen.

"Trans rights" is happening faster than I expected, but I'm not surprised it's happening. Sexual feelings of every kind are now considered both immutable and sacrosanct. That includes feelings about one's sexual identity, not just sexual attraction. We have reached a very interesting conundrum. We have established an extensive system to provide benefits and awards to people of "non--white" ethnicity and of the female gender. However, we are increaasingly allowing people to self-identify as "non-white" (see Elizabeth Warren) and as female. I applaud Rowling and other progressives for trying to put the brakes on things. However, they should have realized that this type of thing was just around the bend from what they had been advocatng for years. I also find it humorous that only now, when their own accolades, jobs and social positions are being threatened by men identifying as women, do they see the light.

The attack on the gains of our courageous suffragettes has not escaped my notice but to be legally condemned for saying so is most certainly a Sign of the Times. :-(
