Like so many things in the scriptures - we need to study the Lord's symbolism to understand the full impact of what we read. Your article did a wonderful job of explaining the imagery in simple terms! Well done. Compelling and educational read. In response to another female commentator - this main point of this article's terms are to show the role of men & women. The Priesthood is specifically given to men, not women. Women may access its power but it is the responsibility of MEN to wield the priesthood. Women have their OWN area of influence, (family + children) be happy neither gender must do it "all" on their own. Re-visit the temple endowment ceremony to get more clarification. Family Proclamation info is included within the article. If you read this article again about the role of women and importance, it might fall into place better.

I had a vision once during a stake leadership meeting where priesthood holders in my immediate, extended and ward family lined the covenant path. I saw them help a friend on that just got out of an abusive relationship and they stood shoulder to shoulder to protect those women and children already on the path. It was a powerful picture. Your article beautifully compliments what I saw.

Very helpful insight to gain knowledge to be brave warriors with the power of God and be worthy to bear the Holy Priesthood to defend our eternal companions and our children against the enemy. Thank you for sharing this article.

I am grateful to Larry for his article - just as timely today as in 2004 when he first wrote it. I have long believed that the true, revealing mark of a "civilized nation" is how they treat their women - how they educate them, honor them, protect them, and nurture girls from babyhood to womanhood. Those religions and ideologies which do not do elevate womanhood are just a relic of the past when women were only seen as a gratification for a man's sexual desires and a weaker being to be exploited. This is midieval thinking. Jesus Christ the Son of our Eternal Father and God taught us how to value women. His approach was kind, tender, loving, caring, and resulting eventually in exalting. Plainly He knew that women are the perpetuators of the human race, and the teachers of the most enabling God-like traits. It is commonly said in American history books that the West was not settled until the women came. Hunters and trappers are great and necessary, but true civilization rests on the shoulders of women. I sincerely appreciate the women athletes, soldiers, and adventurers. (My own mother was enrolled in the Women's Naval Reserves in World War II.) However, in light of the unique cultural calling of women to bear and teach the future generation, I feel the highest calling in this world is to be a woman and a mother. We have neglected to teach the importance of that calling to our upcoming generation of girls. I suggest we reverse course, and instead of applauding the "Me" attitude, we teach and revere the "I am the Future" attitude among our girls.

This is so true. Thank you for sharing such great remarks on Satan's Attack on Women. It helps understand and put things in right perspective. It completes the picture of why Satan attacked Eve alone in the garden of Eden rather than Adam or both of them together. .

Great insight's! I have often wondered why women have been so persecuted throughout history and this makes a good scriptural argument as to why Satan does it and how Christ and the Priesthood step in to play their role's to defeat Satan. My one disagreement is that I do think it is healthy for couples to have some separate interests and not always have to be together.

Very good and very true article. Thank you.

This is a good article, but the understanding of priesthood power in it is dated. In recent years, the First Presidency, Quorum of the Twelve, and general auxiliary leaders have striven to help us all understand that not only men but also endowed women are given the power of the priesthood. Not priesthood office or ordination, but the power of the priesthood. Women can use this power to call upon the powers of heaven in behalf of themselves and their families. This is a vital doctrine that is missing from what is being taught in this article.

How do you get such inspired insights? Thank you for inspiring me to step up my efforts to lead and protect my wife and family through the proper use of my Priesthood.
