And meanwhile in another family, the sons never talk to their parents or have anything to do with them because they are too prepared to be on their own and their wife wants everything to be about her family. It is hard to have a balanced life where you are still family and not ignored or too involved after the kids are grown.

Geoff really gave some great advice here, especially the counsel to the parents to back off and allow this couple to work this out together on their own. I hope the parents will take his checklist seriously as to how they can do this. Being too supportive will only encourage the daughter to lean on them instead of her husband.
