SALT LAKE CITY — The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square announces that its once-a-year online audition period is now open and that applications must be submitted before midnight on August 15, 2022.
Choir Audition Information and Application Process
Members of the Choir are volunteers who have the unique opportunity to express their faith and share their talents with people around the world. They have a love of music and seek to convey the love of God by testifying of Jesus Christ through uplifting music.
The usual duties of Choir members include performing at “Music & the Spoken Word” weekly and performing during other concerts, tours and recordings. Depending on the performance schedule, Choir members can spend five to 20 hours per week in rehearsals. They will participate in approximately 75 scheduled performances per year.
To apply, all applicants must:
- Be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and be in good standing.
- Be between 25 and 55 years of age on April 30, 2023, when Choir service would begin.
- Currently reside within 100 miles of the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, Utah.
What Is Involved in the Choir Application Process?
The application process opened June 1, 2022, and will continue until August 15, 2022. All Choir applications must be submitted entirely online. The Choir recommends applicants carefully read the Application Guide before beginning the application.
Each application requires a digital voice recording and digital photo submission. Upon receipt of the electronic application, the Choir will email the applicant’s local Church leader and ask for an ecclesiastical endorsement. All audition applications must be submitted by midnight on August 15, 2022.
What Is Involved in the Audition Process?
The process to become a member of the Choir is completed over nine months. An individual must meet the membership criteria outlined above and complete a four-phase audition process. The four phases include the submission of the electronic application, completion of a musical skills assessment, an in-person audition (which includes an interview with a member of the Choir presidency) and 16 weeks of training in the Choir School and Chorale at Temple Square. At the conclusion of the four phases, successful candidates become members of The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
Information About the Choir
The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square is an all-volunteer choral ensemble of 360 individuals who provide artistic expressions of faith from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. These singers have the unique musical experience of performing publicly each week on “Music & the Spoken Word,” a live 30-minute program broadcast worldwide on radio, television and online.
