After years working as a corporate training professional, Matthew Johnson found an opportunity to pursue his passion for humanitarian work. For 15 years, he has been involved in various aspects of the Church’s welfare and self-reliance efforts, from bishops’ storehouses to employment centers to disaster relief projects. He has visited with individuals from all walks of life who have benefited from these services—refugees seeking a new start, former inmates seeking a new future, flood survivors trying to restore homes, and addiction recovery participants trying to restore relationships. While his work has taken him to various parts of the world, he jokes that it is generally to places that are on no one’s “bucket list.” But they are experiences he would never trade, and he’s grateful for the opportunity to now share them with a wider audience.
