James L. Ferrell was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. He graduated from Brigham Young University with degrees in economics and philosophy and went on to receive a law degree from Yale Law School. He serves as managing director of The Arbinger Institute, a renowned management consulting firm and scholarly consortium that specializes in peacemaking. He has authored several books and has taught and advised leaders of corporations, governments, and organizations of all kinds in many countries around the world. He has served in many capacities in the Church, and currently serves in a stake presidency. He and his wife, Jackie, are the parents of five children.
