Virginia, Maryland Meridian Readers-We Need You
By Maurine Jensen Proctor

Did you ever yearn to have fun, have a place in history and make a difference all at the same time?  If you live in Virginia, Maryland or the Washington D.C. area-or will be visiting next week-we invite you to be part of the activities supporting John G. Roberts during his Senate confirmation hearings.  You can participate any time from Tuesday through Friday, Sept. 6-9.

There are plenty of opportunities for volunteers-whether it is lining the hallways to cheer for the nominee, make signs, hold up signs along one of the streets that have been booked around the Senate buildings, participate in events/rallies, getting information from one location to another or assisting in distributing food, water, and drinks.

Why would Meridian ask for this support for John Roberts to a non-partisan readership?

It’s simple.  It’s all about the definition of marriage, the fight over abortion and the protection of religious freedom.

You probably wonder why our society is undergoing such a ghastly momentum of moral decline.  Special interest groups in favor of protecting pornography, removing all references to God from the public square, and redefining marriage have found that though they cannot get their agenda past the voting public, activist judges will forward their social agenda.

John Roberts would not be that kind of  Supreme Court Justice.

In the past few weeks several groups have announced that they will fight the confirmation of John Roberts with aggressive vigor.  Among these are People for the American Way, the Human Rights Campaign, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, and Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.  Convinced he will vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, he is opposed by the National Organization of Women, NARAL, the National Abortion Federaion, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and Americans United for Separation of Church and State-among many, many others.

Special interest groups like these will be flexing their political muscle-influencing Senators and the media next week-and those of us who have a different set of values need to raise our voices.

If you can come and give some time to support your family values next week, it will help the causes you most care about.  You can come for any block of time.  For instructions and to volunteer please contact Maurine Proctor at ed*******@me**************.com  We need you.

No matter how busy you are next week, this may be one of the most important things you could do.
