The Heartland Versus Mesoamerica Part 1: A Foundation for Comparison
The following comes from the Interpreter Foundation.
This post begins a series of blog posts in which I will compare two proposed locations for the Book of Mormon. An important caveat is that I have published on the Mesoamerican model and prefer it. Having stated that I do begin with bias, I will nevertheless attempt to deal with evidence more than prejudice. I will attempt to represent comparable aspects of both the Heartland and Mesoamerican models. Also important is the declaration that I present this information as my own studied opinion and intend no implication that my ideas represent The Interpreter Foundation or the Interpreter journal.
The very first point of comparison is that it is going to be difficult to make the comparison. The reason is that the two geographic models are built on completely different concepts of how one should arrive at a solution to the question …

Your Hardest Family Question: My children have questions about my dying ex-husband
Question
My husband left my children and me more than 20 years ago for another woman. He was addicted to pornography and had multiple affairs, ultimately ending in his decision to divorce. My grown children, especially two of my sons, are still left with a lot of pain from the rejection and his emotional abuse before he left, although they have all tried to do their best and be good children to him under difficult circumstances. He married the woman he left us for. He continues to hate me through the years because he blames me for not being the woman who would fulfill his every need.
Now he is dying soon. The children are aware of his pornography addiction since it is apparent in his lifestyle, although I don’t think they really know why he hates me so much still or what the real reason is he had the …

Some of the Best Fiction Books
It has been a while since I reviewed books geared for older children ages eight and above. I have collected some of the best books with different genres that will have kids turning pages to the end! There are so many books I wish to inform you about that I will list them at the end. These books would be enjoyed by adults as well and read aloud to family members!
One Wrong Step, by Jennifer A. Nielsen, is a historical fiction set in the Himalayans in 1939. Twelve-year-old Atlas and his father are on a quest to climb Mount Everest. Maddy and her father are also on this expedition. However, the two kids remain behind at one of the base camps because it’s too dangerous for them to go any further. Suddenly, they hear that Nazis are nearby attempting the climb making it also perilous at base camp. …

Come, Follow Me for Sunday School: “If Ye Are Not One, Ye Are Not Mine”, Doctrine and Covenants 37-40
Cover image: Saints Move to Kirtland, by Sam Lawlor.
Anchored in Christ
A few years ago, Sister Sheri Dew spoke to our team at BYU. She shared a story from her life. Here is that story as published in an article about Sheri in the Deseret News:
…[Sheri] was a star player in basketball-crazy Kansas at a tiny high school in Ulysses (population 4,000), averaging 23 points and 17 rebounds a game. She had a hook shot, a post-up move, a jump shot, and she could move under the basket to get free for shots.
“With all the modesty I can muster, I was good,” [Sheri] says. “I haven’t seen many girls who could play basketball at that age who were as good as I was.” But this was in the late ’60s and ’70s, when there were few opportunities for girls to play college basketball. She chose to

Who Do You Trust to Tell you the Truth About Reality?
The following first appeared on Publish Peace.
Imagine you are near the end of your life, sitting somewhere lovely – close to people you love and who love you. And someone shows up your door knocking – an honest-to-goodness writer wanting to interview you! It turns out they’re writing a book about YOUR LIFE – how exciting is that?
You’re flattered that someone wants to share your story, until you hear the title they’re considering: “The untold story of [Your name here]… the Actual Truth That’s Been Covered Up Until Now”
It turns out this writer has already done a few interviews. She’s spoken to every one of your ex-boyfriend (or girlfriends) from high school and college, along with former roommates, and one neighbor in particular who really didn’t like you. She’s done other homework too – monitoring social media posts all the way back to something …

The Science Behind Why Bodies Filled with Light Can Comprehend All Things
A few years ago, I took my 12-year-old daughter with me on a work trip to France. We took a day to travel outside of Paris and visit the famously gaudy palace of Versailles. Included in the tour package was a guided tour with a live guide who provided insightful stories and details as we walked through the palace and grounds. Owing to the cacophony of the clamoring crowds at nearly every step of the tour, the docent had provided a radio headset for each tourist in our small group and would provide commentary by speaking into a microphone device that broadcast his voice to each of our headsets. It worked remarkably well!
At one point of the tour, I slipped my headset off and glanced around at the noisy crowd. It occurred to me that most of the other tourists were walking through the same space as our small …

Mental Health Minute: Was He Angry?
Cover image via Gospel Media Library.
The gospel of John describes Jesus cleansing the temple: John 2:13 “And the Jews’ passover was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem, 14 And found in the temple those that sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the changers of money sitting: 15 And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables; 16 And said unto them that sold doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house an house of merchandise.”
Was the Savior angry? If someone is angry or in a rage and out of control, do they take the time to make a scourge of small cords? After such a rage, are they in a state of mind to heal the blind and …

Do You Ever Feel Stuck in Your Marriage?
At one time or another, most married people have felt stuck. They cared about their partner and found many blessings in their marriages, but something wasn’t working right and the harder they tried to deal with it, the worse things got.
It might have been a problem with intimacy or making time for each other or managing money. There are thousands of potential friction points in marriage.
And here’s the big question: Where do we turn when our most cherished relationship is struggling?
Sometimes we turn to analysis. We try to figure out why our beloved acts in such irrational ways. “What is wrong with him/her?” The problem with analysis is that we are burdened by the same biases and misperceptions that got us into discontent in the first place. It is likely to recirculate and enlarge our complaints.
Sometimes we talk to friends. Wise and good friends may discern …
